Lights on a Fire Appliance

Imass Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVLS)

Knowing the location of mobile resources (eg. appliances and officers) is often seen as an enhancement of Fire Control / Mobilising systems.  However, it may also be very useful to the mobile resource itself.

For this reason, Imass views AVLS, based on the Global Positioning System (GPS), as a separate facility.  It may therefore be more readily used in conjunction with Mobile Data Communications, to enhance Command and Control or with the in-vehicle solution by providing real-time resource location.  A complete integrated solution will provide real benefits in both areas.

Using various levels of GPS technology, together with additional facilities if required, the Imass AVLS solution will provide a level of accuracy to suit a wide range of needs under a range of conditions.  The intelligence in-built within the Imass solution gives excellent control to tailor the use of the technology too.  This means that the solution generates valuable information, without overload.  This information :

  • In conjunction with Mobile Data / Status Messaging, assists Fire Control to identify appropriate resources to mobilise to incidents;

  • Assists the appliance or officer to know exactly where they are and to navigate to incidents or to other locations;

  • In conjunction with Mobile Data / Status Messaging, assists Fire Control monitor the progress of appliances on-route to an incident, helps to confirm arrival and provides an accurate incident location where this is not known;

  • Assists in the analysis of the response to particular incidents;

  • Enables logging of vehicle movements for use in the analysis of your overall operation and to provide an overall view of the arrangement of resources.
