Imass delivers new Surrey fleet
information system
Following a rigorous tender assessment
process, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SF&RS)
contracted Imass to equip their full fleet of 44 Fire
Appliances and specialist vehicles and 24 Fire Stations
with its second-generation Vehicle Mounted Data System (VMDS),
Central Management System (CMS) and Automatic
Information Update System (AIUS) solutions.
Collectively the VMDS, CMS and AIUS are
called the Imass Operational Information System (OIS).
The OIS is a front line information
management and delivery system. It provides a wide range
of generic and map-based information to support fire
crews.
The key objective was to deliver a system
to improve Health and Safety on the incident ground and
a decision support mechanism, which would enhance the
Safe Person Concept.
The system covers the county of Surrey and
neighbouring areas, whereas the paper-based approach had
focused on individual fire station grounds.
Updates to the high quality information
managed in CMS are distributed automatically to Fire
Stations and appliances, via the Brigade's Wide Area
Network, which includes Imass-installed Wireless LAN
connectivity to appliances.
SF&RS has achieved a range of benefits
since the implementation, including:
-
Meeting its requirement for an
operational decision support tool, which interlinks
with the Incident Command System and supports
Dynamic Risk Assessment;
-
Achieving significant improvements to
the operational management of incidents and the
establishment of a standard incident resolution
approach, supported by Countywide information;
-
Satisfying the Government's drive for
'BEST VALUE' by ensuring the Service has efficient
data gathering, management and distribution
facilities that support effective work processes and
bring front-line crews into the information loop;
-
Enabling information updates to be
automatically distributed to all operational
locations and appliances within minutes rather than
weeks or months, seamlessly.
Imass, working closely with SF&RS
delivered the solution "on time and on
budget".
